On the road with The Chieftains

We’re home and resting up after playing with The Chieftains in Glasgow and here in California.

Los Cenzontles is also one of the many artists accompanying The Chieftains on their latest album, San Patricio (due out in stores March 9th). For more about the album, check out philly.com’s article.

We’ve been featured in the New York Times!

American Horizons has just received a rave review from the New York Times. Lawerence Downes writes:

The first song on the new album “American Horizon” sends you right away to a place you’ve never been and might never want to leave: a tropical countryside under a full moon, where men come down from hills on horseback and women gather by a lagoon, full of anticipation that a warm, dark evening will become, through music and dance, a night of light and heat.

That’s the strange beauty of “American Horizon,” …. It both honors and upends traditional Mexican music, tapping deep roots as it flowers into something completely new, and distinctly American.

We’re going to Glasgow…

We’ve been invited to perform with The Chieftains and Ry Cooperat Celtic Connections in January. The festival is Scotland’s permiere winter music festival. The folks over at Celtic Connections summed things up this way:

“Celtic Connections is delighted to present another first. This time we have persuaded Irish legends, The Chieftains, to invite some very special friends to join them in a musical celebration that links the music of Ireland with Mexico and the southern United States.

Appearing with the band tonight will be revered US musician, producer and composer Ry Cooder and the Mexican five piece Los Cenzontles. In the hands of masters like these you can expect remarkable musicianship rooted in a vibrant tradition, spectacular dance and elegant song.”
